Poetry from Ryan’s Way Country Club’s Head Groundskeeper
Fader’s Bog
by Johnny Fourtrees
There is a place called Fader’s Bog
And bad things happen there.
Players say it isn’t safe
So golfers be aware.
The caddies say it’s haunted
It will steal your strokes away.
Members should avoid it
The bog will ruin your day.
And when you bring a guest to play
You may want to skip 16.
For on the right is that bog
Accused of many things.
If perchance you lose a ball
Let it be okay.
For Fader’s Bog is one place
You hope to stay away.
If someone says I’m afraid of the bog
You can tell your friend it’s true.
Nothing good can come from it
Don’t let the bog get you.

Speedy and the Bull Elephant
Speedy Greens and his good friend and ESPN golf producer, Jim Lepera, on photo safari before the Nedbank Golf Challenge had their afternoon game drive coffee break interrupted by a bull elephant who came out of the bush into the clearing late afternoon. Their guide, Solomon, gave the two enterprising TV types 10-15 more seconds to get back into the Jeep or he was leaving us! The next morning their were 10-12 elephants in the exact same spot…Speedy
Speedy’s Rare Find
Speedy & Tom Watson on Safari
5 British Open Championships and 2 Master’s titles, plus 39 PGA Tour wins had nothing on the nerves when it came to a world class photo safari at Jaci’s Tree Lodge, as Hall of Famer Tom Watson and Speedy Greens a.k.a. Jim Kelly were in search of Africa’s Big 5…plenty of all of them EXCEPT the elusive leopard.
Then it was on to Sun City where Tom played in the Champion’s Challenge of The Nedbank Golf Challenge where Speedy broadcast all four rounds to over 45 countries and an audience worldwide of over a billion viewers.
Speedy on Safari
After a 36 hour tour home from South Africa – from Sun City to Johannesburg to Atlanta to Salt Lake City, Speedy Greens is back and has some safari photos to share!
Speedy Greens went on a Photo Safari with Hall of Famer Tom Watson and his South African born wife, Hillary, and her daughter, Kelly Paige, who is quite the singer/songwriter living in Nashville.
Knowing Tom as I have since he graduated from Stanford, it was especially fun spending time together in the magical South African bush at Jaci’s Tree lodge and then it was on to Sun City for the Nedbank Golf Challenge. I saw all of Africa’s Big 5, but sadly for Speedy, the elusive leopard did him in again and no sighting. Gary Player said I should go to his ranch at Leopard Creek AND I’m going to take him up on it.
Check back for more photos all week!
